This gallery of Olympic and sports art in New York City museums and public collections illustrates the long history of art focusing on the human struggle for athletic greatness. New York now has a virtual gallery of sports images that range from representations of victorious Olympic athletes at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to heroes of baseball at the Bronx Museum and Queens Museum.
The institutions represented in this gallery have generously contributed image of works from their collections. The gallery is a work-in-progress and will expand to include additional images from institutions throughout the city and in all art forms, including film, video and the performing arts. |
