The New York Times
New Yorkers looking to tickle the ivories or hear others do so may have experienced one of the 88 pianos which were placed in outdoor locations around New York for two weeks at the end of June by Sing for Hope, a nonprofit arts group. The painted pianos appeared in likely spots such as outside Alice Tully Hall but also in child friendly environments like Tompkins Square Park. The "play me" instruments encouraged experienced musicians and novices to perform impromptu recitals - in competition with summer NYC traffic - human and vehicular.
