ORCHESTRA OF ST. LUKE’S ANNOUNCES PLAN TO CREATE MUSIC RESOURCE CENTER FOR NEW YORK CITY
The Orchestra of St. Luke’s plans to build a state-of-the-art facility for New York’s music community. Projected to open in 2010, the 20,000-square-foot center will share half of a six-story building on West 37th Street with the Baryshnikov Arts Center. It will include a large rehearsal hall with recording and staging capabilities, a chamber orchestra rehearsal hall, four sectional rehearsal halls, three artist studios, a lounge and café, a resource center and a library. NYFA AWARDS FELLOWSHIPS TO 144 ARTISTS
New York Foundation for the Arts awarded fellowships to 144 New York artists on June 2. The greatest number of recipients, selected by peer panels from over 4,500 applicants, were from Brooklyn. Each fellowship comes with a $7,000 unrestricted grant. For more information and to apply, click here.

ALLIANCE JOINS TWO TEAMS TO STUDY ARTS INDUSTRY
The New York City Economic Development Corporation selected a team including the Alliance and Lord Cultural Resources and led by the consulting firm HR&A to recommend steps to bolster the economy using nonprofit cultural organizations. The team will analyze the economic impact of the arts on the city, conduct outreach to New York’s arts leaders and develop a strategic investment plan for the nonprofit cultural industry.
The Alliance for the Arts will also participate in a new research project on the impact of the arts in New York State. The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has awarded a planning grant to Cornell University’s ILR School to study the challenges and opportunities facing the arts and entertainment industry in the state. The project will focus on the performing arts and entertainment segments of the industry, including commercial and nonprofit sectors.

Kathleen Flynn has been appointed executive director of Dieu Donné effective July 1. She is currently director of exhibition administration at the American Federation of Arts.
