NEWS AT THE ALLIANCE

ALLIANCE'S NEW STUDY REVEALS WEAKENING ARTS INDUSTRY BEFORE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN
The Alliance's report, Who Pays for the Arts? Income for the Nonprofit Cultural Industry in New York City, analyzes income between the years of 1995 and 2007. The report, which updates a 2001 study that described a world just before the attacks of September 11, shows how cultural organizations raised money just before the onset of the current recession. The report establishes that overall, cultural organizations were weaker going into the economic downturn than many knowledgeable people had assumed. The study reaffirms the 2001 report findings that nonprofit cultural organizations are still largely dependent on admissions, box office revenue and fundraising from the private sector. He is a freelance writer for Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan magazines and, on weekends, can often be found selling pork at the New York City farmers markets. Kevin graduated from the College of William & Mary in Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies in 2005.

THIS MONTH ON NYC ARTS
Intersections: The Grand Concourse at 100

NYC_ARTS_home_thumb1.gif

This year the Bronx commemorates the centennial of the Grand Concourse, the thoroughfare designed by Louis Risse, inspired by the Champs Élysées in Paris and conceived as a means of connecting residents of Manhattan to the green parks of the North Bronx. To mark the occasion, the Bronx Museum of the Arts examines the past, present and future of the Grand Concourse with Intersections, a year-long, three-part centennial celebration. The first segment, Intersections: The Grand Concourse at 100, features archival documentation and original artworks by Diane Arbus, Alvin Baltrop, Aaron Birk, Burgoyne Diller, Adolph Gottlieb, Skowmon Hastanan, Pablo Helguera, Daniel Hauben, André Kertész, Jay Leyda, Pia Lindman, Gordon Matta-Clark, Ira Moskowitz, Hélio Oiticica and Henry E. Rile. For more information, click here.

FROM THE PRESIDENT
