OVER 300 FRIENDS OF THE ARTS SUPPORT THE ALLIANCE
Thank you for your support of the Friends of the Arts Party on Tuesday, November 18. The party was a big success--over 300 people came together at Christie's to celebrate great art and a great cause, exceeding our goal of $50,000 for the Robert F. TRIBUTE TO GERRY SCHOENFELD
The Alliance for the Arts notes with sadness the passing of Gerald Schoenfeld, a founding board member, long-time supporter of Alliance and chairman of the Shubert Organization. Gerry was involved with every report published by the Alliance on the economic impact of the arts since 1983. The alliance wishes his sucessor, Philip J. Smith and new president and co-chief executive officer, Robert E. Winkel well.

ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2008 RECIPIENTS OF NEW YORK CITY CULTURAL INNOVATION FUND AWARD
The Rockefeller Foundation awarded $2.7 million to 16 recipients through the New York City Cultural Innovation Fund, which awards initiatives in the creative sector that strengthen the city's cultural breadth and its economy. This year's recipients are 3-Legged Dog, Alarm Will Sound, Bronx Council on the Arts, Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation, Chez Bushwick, Creative Time, Downtown Community Television Center, Fractured Atlas Productions, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Misnomer, New York Foundation for the Arts, New-York Historical Society, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Seventh Regiment Armory Conservancy (Park Avenue Armory), Performa and Time Square District Management Association (Times Square Alliance). REPORT ON OFF-OFF-BROADWAY PUBLISHED
The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation has released the results of a five-year study that analyzes trends of Off-Off-Broadway performance venues by neighborhood. The report found that over 25 percent of Off-Off Broadway venues in the West Village and Midtown have been demolished or repurposed into non-performance spaces in the last five years. It also indicated that the East Village, which accounts for 14 percent of the overall Off-Off-Broadway venues, is currently presenting 30 percent of the Off-Off-Broadway productions. FIRST LADY MICHELLE PAIGE PATERSON NAMED HONORARY CHAIR OF THE HUDSON-FULTON-CHAMPLAIN QUADRICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

Governor David A. Paterson announced that First Lady Michelle Paige Paterson will serve as Honorary Chair of the Quadricentennial Celebration to take place next year. For more information, click here.


SWING SPACE APPLICATIONS DUE JANUARY 21
The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council will begin accepting applications December 10 for its Swing Space program, which makes vacant spaces available to artists, arts groups, curators and arts organizations. Selected projects will be considered for placement from May through October 2009 for residencies lasting two to four months. For more information and to apply, click here.


BROOKLYNGIVES.ORG
The Independence Community Foundation is encouraging Brooklynites to donate to nonprofit organizations that serve Brooklyn with programs for art, youth, education and community development. The initiative will help sustain their work during the current economic downturn. For information on how to give, click here.

NEA RELEASES REPORT ON WOMEN ARTISTS
A new report by the National Endowment for the Arts indicates that women are making gains in traditionally male artist occupations, but still earn less than men. Women Artists: 1990-2005 shows that 919,000 women artists represented 46 percent of the artist labor force in 2005; however, full-time women artists earn 75 cents for every dollar made by men artists. PEOPLE

Jane M. Gullong has been named president of the Brooklyn Philharmonic effective January 5, 2009. She is currently executive director of the New York City Opera.
