LMDC ANNOUNCES CULTURE PLAN FOR WTC SITE
On February 10, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation released a report on the potential mix of cultural institutions and programming at the World Trade Center site. The LMDC has begun to meet with the organizations that submitted the most promising proposals in response to the Invitation to Cultural Institutions issued last June. Quoting from the LMDC statement, the short list includes:
Organizations that may develop the curatorial approach for the Memorial Center:
Museum of the City of New York
New-York Historical Society
New York State Museum in Albany
Programming concepts for the Memorial Center may come from:

Sound Portraits Productions/Story Corps
Short-listed for the Performing Arts Center:

New York City Opera
Signature Theatre Company
Additional programming for the Performing Arts Center may come from:

Short listed for cultural buildings on the site:

[Additionally, the creation and construction of a new 'Museum of Freedom' has been discussed as a potential cultural building.]
The cultural buildings may also provide space for international public programs and educational offerings from organizations such as the 92nd Street Y.
NEW YORK DANCE COMPANIES HEADLINE KENNEDY CENTER SEASON
Beginning in January 2005, three New York dance companies--Dance Theatre of Harlem, American Ballet Theatre and the New York City Ballet--will be in Washington, D.C as a part of a six-month festival celebrating American arts in the 1940s at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
SKYSCRAPER MUSEUM TO OPEN IN APRIL
On April 2 the Skyscraper Museum will open the doors of its new facility in Battery Park City at 39 Battery Place near the corner of First Place (across from the Museum of Jewish Heritage). The 5,000 square-foot space was designed by Roger Duffy of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill Architects and contains space for temporary exhibitions and a permanent exhibition about the evolution of the New York City skyline.

Wallace Chappell is the new executive director of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, effective immediately.
Klaus Jacobs is the acting director of Carnegie Hall.
Rachel S. Moore is the new executive director of the American Ballet Theatre, effective in mid-April.

A reminder: Arts Day in Albany will be held on Tuesday, March 9 in the Legislative Office Building. The event gives arts supporters a chance to meet their state representatives and to advocate for the New York State Council on the Arts' budget. To register, click here.

SUMMER SCHOOL SERVICES RFP--APRIL 9
The New York City Department of Education has issued a Request for Proposals from organizations experienced in providing supplemental enrichment programs for summer school students in grades two and three. The due date for proposals is April 9. There will be a pre-proposal conference at 3 pm on March 22 at 65 Court Street in downtown Brooklyn.
