NEW ARTS RESEARCH CONFERENCE AT COLUMBIA ON MAY 5

Top cultural policy researchers will come together this Thursday to present and discuss the latest data at Measuring the Muse: Arts Research from the Frontlines, presented by the Alliance for the Arts and the National Arts Journalism Program, with support from The Wallace Foundation and the Columbia University Arts Initiative.

Dana Gioia, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts and Kate D. Levin, Commissioner of Cultural Affairs, will speak.

Discussions will include new cultural policy research, including the RAND Corporation report "Gifts of the Muse," and the Center for an Urban Future report "New York City's Creative Sector: Building an Understanding and Strategy. For more information, visit www.allianceforarts.org.

EXECUTIVE BUDGET TO BE RELEASED ON MAY 5

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will release the Executive Budget for 2006 on May 5. An Alliance Bulletin will be issued after the budget is made public.

DCA BUDGET HEARING
The hearing on the Executive Budget for the Department of Cultural Affairs will take place on Thursday, May 26 at 9:15 am in City Hall. The public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 18 from 10 am to 6 pm.


PERCENT FOR ART EXHIBITION AT CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3

Timed to coincide with the release of the book City Art: New York's Percent for Art Program, this exhibition features original photography by David S. Allee, a multimedia installation of the program's completed projects as well as selected models and architectural plans documenting the Percent for Art program's extraordinary achievement. This exhibition celebrates the 30th anniversary of the New York City program which commissions permanent new works of art in public buildings.


PEOPLE

Catherine B. Reynolds has been appointed chairwoman of the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Ms. Reynolds is a businesswoman and head of the Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation, which supports education in the arts. Arthur Mitchell, co-founder of the institution, will remain as artistic director.

ARTS & BUSINESS COUNCIL FORUM

The Arts & Business Council of New York, a division of Americans for the Arts, will host a forum, Transfer of Wealth: Engaging the New Generation of Philanthropy on May 18.
