FRIENDS OF THE ARTS PARTY NOVEMBER 29

The Alliance is holding its third annual Friends of the Arts Party on Tuesday, November 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Christie's (20 Rockefeller Plaza, 49th Street between Fifth Avenue and Avenue of the Americas). The party benefits the Alliance's advocacy work and the Robert F. Wagner, Jr. Fellowship for Public Policy and the Arts and is sponsored by Christie's, Svedka Vodka and NYCharites.org.

CULTURAL PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS NOW AIRING ON WQXR

New York cultural organizations are getting a promotional boost thanks to a partnership between the City and WQXR radio (96.3 FM). Currently airing is a series of daily public service announcements spotlighting exhibitions, performances and other events at cultural organizations in the five boroughs, called "Your New York Starts Here." The initiative is a collaboration between the City's Department of Cultural Affairs; the Mayor's Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting; the Department of Parks & Recreation; the Department of Records and Information Services; and WQXR. Also slated to air as part of the initiative are "Commissioner's Picks" and "Did You Know?" a short feature focusing on little-known facts of New York City history and its cultural community. Cultural organizations can submit events by downloading a submission form at www.nyc.gov/dcla.


TIME WARNER TO HELP NEW YORK ARTS GROUPS

Time Warner is financing a new three-year program, called Arts Advantage/NYC, to help improve management practices at New York City cultural organizations. The media conglomerate will provide funding to the Kennedy Center in Washington, which, in partnership with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, will offer online sessions, consulting and annual symposiums to help arts groups with planning, financial management and fundraising and marketing. Organizations with budgets between $250,000 and $2.5 million are eligible to apply for the free program online at www.kennedy-center.org/education.


DANCE/NYC EMBARKS ON DANCE CENSUS

In an effort to draw an accurate picture of the New York Dance community, Dance/NYC is conducting a census of New York City dance-making entities, including dance companies, freelance choreographers, collectives and others, in all five boroughs. The census, modeled after studies conducted in the citites of San Francisco, Chicago and Washington, is designed as a complement to Dance/NYC's 2004 study, The Economic Activity of Dance in NYC.

Will Maitland Weiss is the new executive director of the Arts & Business Council New York. Mr. Weiss was previously director of the Center for Creative Resources.

Michael L. Royce is the new executive director of the New York Foundation for the Arts, effective January 2006. Mr. Royce was most recently the President of the Moynihan Station Development Corporation and is a former Deputy Director of the New York State Council on the Arts (1996-1999).

CRAIN'S ANNUAL ARTS AND CULTURE BREAKFAST NOV 9

Four leading arts executives will discuss strategies for attracting new arts audiences and donors at the Crain's New York Business arts and culture breakfast on Wednesday, November 9 beginning at 8 am. Crain's editor Greg David will moderate the forum, which features speakers Karen Brooks Hopkins, president of the Brooklyn Academy of Music; James Houghton, founding artistic director of Signature Theatre Company; Reynold Levy, president of Lincoln Center; and Arlene Schuler, president and chief executive of City Center. The event, which begins with a networking breakfast, will be held at the Sheraton New York (811 Seventh Avenue at 53rd Street). Tickets are $60. 5 DUTCH DAYS, 5 BOROUGHS FESTIVAL NOV 16-20
To honor New York's Dutch past and present, nearly two dozen cultural groups around the city have banded together to create 5 Dutch Days, 5 Boroughs: Dutch Art and Culture Past and Present, a festival of exhibitions, historic tours, lectures, readings and other related events held November 16 to 20. KIDS' NIGHT ON BROADWAY
On January 31 and February 1, 2006, Broadway opens its doors to kids--free. On these two nights children ages 6 to 18 can attend Broadway shows, such as Avenue Q, Mamma Mia! and Hairspray, free when accompanied by a full-paying adult. A program of the League of American Theatres and Producers and sponsored by Madame Tussauds, Kids' Night also includes restaurant and parking discounts and a free pre-theater party.
