NYC's Cultural Community Responds to Hurricane Katrina

On Saturday, September 17 Jazz at Lincoln Center presents the Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert and Auction. Hosted by Wynton Marsalis, Laurence Fishburne, Ken Burns, Bette Midler, Cassandra Wilson and many more, proceeds will benefit Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. On Sunday, September 18 Aaron Davis Hall and Sekou Sundiata present Down for the Cause: A Harlem Relief Response to Hurricane Katrina. Proceeds go to Gulf area hurricane relief efforts. Performers include Burnt Sugar, Sekou Sundiata, Sing Sing Percussion Ensemble and others. For ticket information, call (212) 650-7100.

On Saturday, October 1 the Poetry Project at St. Marks Church will host a benefit to aid Hurricane Katrina victims. Performers include Cecil Taylor, Edwin Torres, Anne Waldman and many others. For more information, visit www.poetryproject.com.
